His card catalogue

In his own hand.

From about 1927 Kingman kept an index card for nearly every work: its number, title, date, place, size, frame and exhibitions, often with a small photograph. These are the cards, scanned in 2013 and redacted to remove personal information.

The numbers run by year and sequence: 52.19 is the nineteenth painting of 1952. Lithographs are numbered L01 to L46 and drawings D01 on. His family added notes in pencil over the years.

Every card can be searched: type a catalogue number, a title, a place, a state or region, or a subject, such as mesa verde, arizona canyon, nebraska farm or 1938. The search reads the text on each card and descriptions of the places and subjects, and the site search finds the cards too.
