{"id":1606,"date":"2020-01-27T09:12:04","date_gmt":"2020-01-27T14:12:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eugenekingman.com\/?page_id=1606"},"modified":"2020-03-08T15:55:06","modified_gmt":"2020-03-08T19:55:06","slug":"gallery-1516-plein-air-exhibition-photos","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/eugenekingman.com\/?page_id=1606","title":{"rendered":"Gallery 1516 &#8220;Plein Air Artists&#8221; Exhibition Photos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From August 24 \u2013 October 13, 2019,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallery1516.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gallery 1516<\/a>\u00a0in Omaha hosted a beautiful exhibit of &#8220;plein air&#8221; works by three twentieth century Nebraska artists: <a href=\"http:\/\/eugenekingman.com\/\">Eugene Kingman<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.askart.com\/artist\/Augustus_William_Dunbier\/8587\/Augustus_William_Dunbier.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Augustus Dunbier<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.askart.com\/artist\/artist\/5688\/artist.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert Gilder<\/a>. In their brochure Gallery 1516 describes the meaning and essence of this style of painting in the exhibition: &#8220;Painting &#8216;en plein air&#8217; or working in the open air directly from nature was first popularized in nineteenth century France. Artists began to reject idealized depictions of landscapes in favor of naturalistic observations that captured the mood and atmosphere of the time and place.
